The Church of North India has consecrated its second woman bishop. On 25 June 2024 the Rt. Rev. Sushma Kumar, Bishop in Chhattisgarh was ordained by the moderator, the Most Rev. Bijaya Kumar Nayak and the bishops in Pune, Bhopal, Gujarat and Cuttack at the CNI Bhavan Chapel at the church’s headquarters in New Delhi. The General Secretary of the CNI, the Rev. Dr DJ Ajith Jumar preached the sermon. Clergy from the diocese also attended the gathering.
Bishop Kumar joins the Rt. Rev. Violet Nayak, who was consecrated Bishop in Phulbani on 22 May 2024, as the second woman bishop in the Church of North India.
