The Rt. Rev. Luke James Kenyi was consecrated last month as bishop of the Episcopal Church of South Sudan’s diocese of Kajo-Keji, in succession to the late Bishop Emmanuel Murye Modi. The Most Rev. Paul Pitia Yugusuk, Archbishop of the Province of Central Equatoria consecrated Bishop Muryi on 10 September 2023 at Emmanuel Cathedral in Kajo-Keji in Kajo-Keji county, South Sudan.

Bishop James told the congregation his “first priority was to strengthen peace and reconciliation”, adding his predecessor had worked hard to bring refugees back from Uganda, a work he pledged to continue.

The archbishop urged the new bishop to lead his people with humility, grace and wisdom. Emmanuel Adil Antony, the governor of Central Equatoria state told the congregation at Emmanuel Cathedral that he hoped refugees who had fled the region due to tribal and religious conflicts would return, to add their labor to rebuilding the state.
