CSI Special Synod to change the church’s constitution set for March

The CSI Bishops’ Council meeting in Chennai this morning (10 Feb 2022) has reportedly fixed March 11 & 12, 2022 for the holding of a Special Synod to push through controversial changes to the CSI Constitution. The meeting is scheduled to take place at the BIshop Heber College in Trichy which is a more secure location than the CSI headquarters at Whites Road in Chennai. In recent weeks there has been an outpouring of criticism from CSI members objecting to proposed changes particularly increasing the retirement age of presbyters and bishops from 67 to 70.

Sources say the Chennai meeting was a tame affair with few objections raised or discussed. While the majority of bishops were physically present, a few joined via Zoom.
