In the ecclesiastical province I am in the churches have been closed and will remain closed for at least one month. First, I don’t like the idea of churches closing, but I understand the need to comply with health regulations. The dioceses need plans to ensure the spiritual needs of the people are met. These plans must be flexible to cover different situations. For example in the church I attend, fewer than 10 people, we can easily have 15 feet between people and do morning prayer. In many congregations I don’t expect the rector to call their parishioners to provide spiritual help. This is an also an opportunity as a community to come together to help and serve each other. For example those who are house bound, others can shop for them. We must lift up our hearts to God and allow Him to use us to serve others at this difficult time. My fear is the diocese will just shut down and people will question the need for the anglican church.
