Archbishop of Wales urges restraint in US – Iran relations

The Archbishop of Wales, John Davies, is calling for ‘calm and wisdom’ to prevail as tensions escalate between the United States and Iran.

In a statement today (Jan 5), Archbishop John says:

“At a time when the Christian world continues to celebrate the birth of the Prince of Peace, the Wonderful Counsellor, we must all view with a sense of some alarm, the escalation in tensions between the United States and Iran. The recent action on the part of the US, taken, it would appear, in the total absence of any consultation with its closest allies, has raised the danger level significantly, and the response has begun. It is right that leaders of the world’s nations who are of a good heart and a calm mind should counsel care and wisdom. I urge the government of the United Kingdom to make the strongest representations that such calm and wisdom should prevail in the cause of the peace which Christ came to bring and which the world, in so many places, so desperately needs.”

  1. Thank you Abp. Davies for your advice and expressing your concern. It’s okay. We have a handle on this. You may wish to keep your boys indoors until we sound the all clear siren. Please be patient. We’ve been working on this since the days of Pres. Jimmy Carter.

    • Lovely! And so sad that we British are still kidding ourselves that there are very good reasons why the Islam that ill treats, attacks and murders their Christian minorities, is oh so different to the Islam our Churchmen keep trying to appease through interfaith engagement..

  2. This reads more like virtue-signalling, and from someone who has never left the Welsh valleys or understood either the Americans or the Iranians. It may appear to present him as holy but serves no other practical or spiritual purpose.

  3. The recent action on the part of the US, “taken, it would appear, in the total absence of any consultation with its closest allies,” I wonder if this response was taken in consultation with any “allies” who might have been of a becalming sort willing to take the long and balanced view?
