Gay nuptial blessing celebrated in Austrian Catholic Church

The news website Gloria.TV reports the head of the Office for the Family of the Roman Catholic diocese of Graz, Fr. Michael Kopp, presided at the blessing of the marriage of two women last month. Photos from the service at St. Margarethen Church in Wolfsberg in the Diocese of Klagenfurt which have circulated on the internet have elicited sharp criticism from Catholic traditionalists, who note the ceremony violates canon law and church ethical teaching. The German and Austrian Catholic Bishops Conferences have pushed the Vatican to soften its opposition to same-sex blessings, but the ban remains in force. Fr. Kopp is unlikely to suffer any immediate penalty for his actions as the Klagenfurt diocese, where he served as director of its Office for the Family, is currently without a bishop.

  1. Didn’t the Austrians consecrate a woman bishop some years back. I believe she is now with an Old Catholic denomination but…. Must be something in the Sachertorte mit Schlag!

  2. “Fr. Kopp is unlikely to suffer any immediate penalty for his actions as the Klagenfurt diocese, where he served as director of its Office for the Family, is currently without a bishop.” Where is the nearest Cardinal? Where is the Pope?

Another reason to flee the Institutional Church,.

  3. Reading about “canon law” made me start thinking about the travesties coming up in the world since homosexual “celebrations” allowing them to think they are married….
The church took the Book that never changes as Jesus is the same yesterday, today and forever – and tried to put it in their own words or understanding…..as time progresses, that changes, although the word does not change, but as it is written in extra-biblical (I don’t know the words here) extra-Biblical writings, they can be changed.
So, what churches have is changing allowances for people based on the culture rather than the Word of God. I assume this is where GAFCON is coming in, except I still don’t hear a lot about Biblical in relation to extra-Biblical even on some things that I think are GAFCON.
Christian understanding for most of us starts with the Bible, and knowledge about the Bible that is traditionally handed down from generation to generation – right? We aren’t looking to books to update what doesn’t agree with the culture and that’s what it looks like to me.
    Why are you allowing this?

8 See to it that no one takes you captive by philosophy and empty deceit, according to human tradition, according to the elemental spirits of the world, and not according to Christ.

T imothy, guard what has been entrusted to your care. Turn away from godless chatter and the opposing ideas of what is falsely called knowledge,

  4. It’s raining. I’m bored. The posting of these official looking wedding photos to the world are meant to be provocative. I’ll bite and wish to practice my long distance profiling skills. Correct me if you think I’m wrong. Many will agree that the person on the right is the groom and the one on the left the bride. To understand the lesbian syndrome one needs to be familiar with the genre’s own vocabulary. I will say the one on the right considers herself to be a boi (sounds like boy) or perhaps a ‘top’, but definitely not a ‘dyke’. The one on the left looks to be ‘a bottom’, the ‘submissive’, a ‘lipstick’, or perhaps even a ‘pillow princess’.

It is from the works of sociologist Dr. Pepper Schwartz the terms lesbian death bed and U-Haul lesbian emanate. Dr. Schwartz’s studies claim lesbians hook up very quickly and the sexual part of their relationship wanes quickly; lesbian bed of death. It is common enough for two gals to have a date, discern a connection while enjoying each other’s company. One will invite the other over the next week for pizza and a movie. You guessed it. The other will show up in a U-Haul ready to move in. “But, I gave up my apartment…”

Yes, I do have about six hours of real life lesbian stories I can regale you. One ends in suicide that may or may not be associated with her perceived sexuality. Another lady passing through town has attended church with me. All of us especially myself must continually address God. No exceptions.

  5. It seems to make manifest that Roman Catholics as well as Anglicans, Protestants, Orthodox, Pentecostals, etc. are not immune to sin. What is Christian would be subsequent contrition, repentance, and renewal, which is missing here. It shows us too the pervasiveness of the drive to make the sin of homosexual conduct socially acceptable, including even within the churches.
That it go without criticism would be turned into acceptance. “As for what was sown among thorns, this is he who hears the word, but the cares of the world, and the delight in riches choke the word, and it proves unfruitful.”
