The Bishop of North East Caribbean and Aruba has consecrated St George’s Church, Basseterre on the island of St. Kitts as the diocese’s third pro-cathedral. On 30 Sept 2019 the Rt. Rev. Errol Brooks presided at a Service of Recognition at St George’s and installed the parish rector, the Rev Canon Dwane Cassius, as its first provost.

Sunday’s ceremony implements resolutions adopted at the July 2018 diocesan convention to have a cathedral or pro-cathedral in each of the diocese’s archdeaconries. Comprising 12 islands in the Windward Islands and Aruba the Cathedral of St John the Divine in St John’s, Antigua is the seat of the bishop and the center of the southern archdeaconry, which is comprised of the islands of Antigua, Barbuda, Montserrat and Dominica.

The Pro-Cathedral of St Mary on Anguilla is the seat of the northern archdeaconry, which comprises the islands of Anguilla, Sint Maarten/Saint Martin, St. Bartholomew, Saba, St. Eustatius and Aruba. Bishop Brooks serves as rector of St Mary’s.

Sunday’s service gives the central archdeaconry, which is comprised of the islands of St. Kitts and Nevis, its own pro-cathedral.
