Allegations of heresy laid against a bishop-elect by a senior ACNA clergyman are currently being investigated by the primate’s office, Anglican Ink can report.

Last week the Church of Nigeria asked the Rev. Matt Kennedy, rector of the Church of the Good Shepherd in Binghamton, New York to memorialize his concerns about the doctrine taught by the Rev. Dr. Augustine Unuigbe, suffragan bishop-elect of the US-based Diocese of the Trinity, in a formal complaint. The complaint was presented to the primate’s office on 16 June 2019 and is currently under review.

Dr. Unuigbe is set to be consecrated by the Most Rev. Nicholas Okoh, on 3 July 2019 in Lagos. While AI has not seen the complaint, it is believed that he has been accused of propagating the word-faith/prosperity gospel heresy, most recently in a sermon delivered on Pentecost Sunday.

The case continues.
