The Most Rev. Francisco de Assis da Silva, Primate Bishop of the Anglican Episcopal Church of Brazil and Bishop of Southwestern Brazil

Born in Olinda in Pernambuco State, Bishop de Assis da Silva was trained as a lawyer before entering the minister. He was educated at Northeast Baptist Seminary and the Diocese of Recife’s theological college. Ordained deacon and priest for the Diocese of Recife, he went on to serve as rector of St. Mary’s Church in Belém do Pará in the Diocese of the Amazon, and rector of All Saints’ Church in Novo Hamburgo, Rio Grande do Sul. From 2003 to 2006 he was president of the church’s House of Clergy and Laity and became general secretary of the church in 2006. On 25 Oct 2010 he was elected Bishop of Southwestern Brazil, and elected Primate Bishop (Bispo Primaz) of the church at the 32nd General Synod on 16 Nov 2013. He is married to Talita da Silva.
