Members of the Youth League of the Church of Nigeria’s Diocese of Sapele have occupied the diocesan cathedral, locking out the clergy and congregation. On 2 Aug 2015 members of the congregation worshipped in the street outside the cathedral in Sapele in Nigeria’s Delta State. Last week members of the youth league seized the keys to the cathedral shortly before the start of the diocesan synod. They have called for their bishop, the Rt. Rev. Blessing Erifeta to resign accusing him of misappropriating church funds, mismanagement and with having shown insufficient respect to local tribal elders. The youth league has filed an appeal with the primate’s office asking Archbishop Nicholas Okoh to intervene in the dispute.
