The Archbishop of Wales has lent his support to the campaign to scrap Britain’s nuclear weapons arsenal.

The Archbishop of Wales has lent his support to the campaign to scrap Britain’s nuclear weapons arsenal. In a statement released last week, the Most Rev. Barry Morgan said he was adding his signature to a petition endorsed by 26 UK faith leaders that states nuclear weapons “violate the principle of dignity for every human being that is common to each of our faith traditions” They called upon the UK and other nuclear powers to “develop a robust plan of action that will lead us to a nuclear weapon free world”. The religious leaders called for a reordering of international affairs. It was now “necessary to move beyond the division of our world into recognised nuclear and non-nuclear weapons states”. The statement comes as the government prepares for the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) Review Conference meeting next month at the United Nations in New York.
