Statement by the Diocese of Peshawar on Quetta church bombing

Moderator of the Church of Pakistan condemns bombing and promises support for the injured

Every year Edwardes College, Peshawar celebrates Advent by holding a graceful Christmas Programme to mark the event. However, this year when the Christmas preparations and celebrations were at their peak the horrible news of the Quetta Church attack saddened the whole country, especially the Christian community. As a result 9 people, including women and children were martyred and almost 60 people were badly injured who are nursing their wounds in the Hospitals of Quetta.

Keeping the tragedy, loss and grief in view the Edwardes Collage Administration decided not to hold event with traditional zeal, instead it turned into a solemn and serene celebration, and it was dedicated to the martyrs, affectees and the grieved Christian community of Quetta.

At this occasion, the Rt. Revd. Humphrey S. Peters, (pictured) Moderator/President Bishop Church of Pakistan in his message said that the coming of Christ in the world is a journy of sacrifice and commitment . This is to retore relation with the heavely Father. While answering qustions of the print and electronic media, the Bishop, the Governor Zafar Iqbal Jagra, the Principal, strongly condemned attack on the Bethel Methodist Church, Quetta and showed solidarity with the affectees and Christian community of Quetta.

Recently the Rt. Revd. Humphrey S. Peters paid a three days visit to Quetta. During his visit he went to the homes of all the martyrs and prayers for the departed souls.

The Bishop also visited injured, consoled their families and prayed for their quick recovery . The Bishop’s visit was a witness of solidarity with the Christian community of Quetta. He promised that the Church of Pakistan will never abandon them in this time of crisis, and will help the affectees in every possible way.
