Wayne Buchanan alleged to have used the internet to access websites and conduct searches prohibited under his plea deal

The former archdeacon for the Northeast for CANA’s Diocese of the East who last month received a one year suspended sentence for possession of child pornography has been arrested for probation violation. On 7 Sept 2017 Wayne Buchanan was arrested for allegedly violating his probation by using his computer to access websites and perform internet searches prohibited under his plea deal.

On 25 Aug 2017 Justice Patrick Larson sentenced Buchanan to a suspended one-year prison term and two years probation after the former rector of St Brendan’s Anglican Church in Bass Harbor, ME, pled guilty to one count of possessing sexually explicit material of a minor under the age of 12, a Class C felony level crime.

Ten days after his initial arrest, the Rt. Rev. Julian Dobbs accepted Buchanan’s resignation as rector of St Brendan’s and a subsequent review by the diocese led to Buchanan’s removal from holy orders in 2016.

Buchanan was released from the Hancock County Jail last Friday, after posting $5,000 bail. By violating his probation, Buchanan could be ordered to serve his one-year prison sentence. A hearing has been scheduled for Oct. 13.
