House of Bishops elects Canon Johnson Twinomujuni as 4th bishop of West Ankole

The Rev Canon Johnson Twinomujuni has been elected the fourth Bishop of West Ankole in the Church of Uganda. Meeting on 20 April 2017 at the Lewza Training and Conference Centre the Ugandan House of Bishops elected to succeed the Rt. Rev. Yonah Katonene who retired in October. Canon Twinomujuni was born in 1968 in the Mbarara District and became a Christian as a teenager. After completing secondary school he served as a church youth worker in Rutooma and earned a certificate in theology at Kinoni Divinity College. He trained as a teacher at Bishop Stuart Training College, and upon graduation in 1992 taught at the Rutooma Primary School. In 1994 he matriculated at the African Bible College in Lilongwe, Malawi and upon graduation was ordained a deacon in 1998 and priest in 1999 for the diocese of Ankole. He served as the priest in charge of Kibingo Parish and chaplain to Bishop Stuart College.  He earned a Master’s Degree in Christian Education in 2002 from Reformed Theological Seminary in Jackson, MS, in the United States, and a Master’s Degree in Organizational Leadership from Uganda Christian University in 2013.. In 2004 he was appointed to the Uganda Bible Institute, where he served as principal until his election last week, and has also served as chaplain to the Mbarara University of Science and Technology. He and his wife Joy have six children.
