The Archbishop of Kenya bid farewell to his church last Sunday at a ceremony marking his retirement. On 8 May 2016 the Archbishop of Uganda, members of the Kenyan House of Bishops and government and civic leaders feted the Most Rev. Eliud Wabukala at a special service held at All Saints Cathedral in Nairobi. Elected the fifth primate of the Anglican Church of Kenya in April 2009, Archbishop Wabukala formally steps down from office on 26 June 2016. His successor will be elected later this month at a special meeting of synod. “I want to thank all the Anglicans in the whole country for standing with me for the seven years I have been in this position. Women, men, children, bishops and all the church leaders you were dear to me,” the archbishop told the congregation. “I am praying for this country, the leaders and politician, some of whom I have worked with and I will continue working with, that they steer this country with wisdom. I pray for peaceful elections next year,” he said. The Most Rev. Stanley Ntagali, Archbishop of Uganda lauded Archbishop Wabukala’s service to the church and his country, saying his “leadership comes from God”. He noted that while his term of office comes to an end, his service to the church would continue through his life and witness.
