Statement of the Presidium of the Polish Bishops’ Conference

We observe with great anxiety the events taking place around the Constitutional Tribunal. The long-standing dispute over the constitutional foundations of the functioning of the Republic of Poland does not serve to build national unity and reconciliation, and its escalation leads to a deep crisis of the state.

It is not the role of the Church to adjudicate the causes of this dispute or the responsibility for the lack of its resolution. However, out of concern for the good of the Homeland and social peace, we appeal for a de-escalation of the conflict, the initiation of constructive dialogue, and the peaceful resolution of all difficulties.

We turn to people of good will, who hold the true good of our country at heart, to support all efforts toward national understanding and reconciliation.

We also ask believers to support our Homeland with their prayers.

Let us pray for light and wisdom for the rulers and all those responsible for public life, so that care for the well-being of the inhabitants of our country and for the common good may be their most important duty.
