The new Archbishop of Wales will be enthroned at a special service in November.

Cherry Vann, who is also the Bishop of Monmouth, will be enthroned as the 15th Archbishop of Wales in a national service at Newport Cathedral on Saturday, November 8. It follows her election as Archbishop in July, having served as Bishop of Monmouth since 2020.

During the service the Archbishop and fellow Bishops will be greeted by people from across Wales who will bring their words of encouragement and prayers for the ministry of the Archbishop and the whole of the Church in Wales.

Archbishop Cherry will be enthroned in the Archepiscopal Chair which will be positioned at the head of the nave. The Archiepiscopal Chair is a wooden replica of the Chair of St Augustine in Canterbury Cathedral, and was a gift from the Archbishop of Canterbury in 1920 when, at its disestablishment, the Church in Wales became a separate Province of the Anglican Communion. The Chair will remain at Newport Cathedral throughout Archbishop Cherry’s tenure of office as Archbishop.

Throughout the service, the cathedral will be filled with the sound of music, hymns and anthems.

Representatives from across Welsh churches and the Anglican Communion will be joined at the service by guests from Wales’ political, cultural and civic life.

The service will begin at 3pm and will be live-streamed on the Church in Wales website to enable everyone to join in.

Novena for the Enthronement of Archbishop Cherry Vann

As the Church in Wales prepares with joy for the enthronement of The Most Reverend Cherry Vann as Archbishop of Wales this November, all are invited to join in prayer and reflection.

This Novena offers daily themes inspired by Archbishop Cherry’s presidential address to the Governing Body on 18 September 2025.
