The Garda are seeking the assistance of the public in locating relatives of a retired Church of England clergyman, who was killed in a motoring accident in Co. Mayo over the weekend. The Rev. Prof. Roger Grainger (82), who lived in Doogort on Achill Island of the West coast of Ireland, was driving his car home after an evening out on Sunday when a flash flood swept him off the road. His body was found at approximately 10:00 pm. From 1972 to 1990 Dr. Grainger served as the chaplain at Stanley Royd Hospital in Wakefield, having served his title in Bromwich and as a curate in Walsall in the Diocese of Lichfield before taking up his post as hospital chaplain and psychotherapist. In retirement he assisted in the Church of Ireland at St Thomas Church in Doogort and was an examiner for a South African university for doctoral students in psychology. Dr. Grainger’s wife predeceased him, and the police are seeking his next of kin.
