WBAL reports that a plea deal may have been reached in the vehicular homicide trial of Heather Cook

A Baltimore television station reports that a plea deal may have been reached in the vehicular homicide trial of Heather Cook, the former suffragan bishop of Maryland. Cook was indicted on multiple felony charges in February following a 27 Dec 2014 collision that killed cyclist Thomas Palermo. On 1 May 2015 Cook was deposed from the ministry of the Episcopal Church in the wake of her arrest for driving under the influence resulting in a homicide, vehicular manslaughter, criminally negligent manslaughter, texting while driving and fleeing the scene of an accident. A breathalyzer test showed Cook’s blood alcohol level was .22 following the accident. WBAL reported on 4 Sept 2015 that Cook’s trial, set for next week, had been advanced one day, “which is a strong indication a plea deal is nearly done,” speculated WBAL-TV 11.
