In June, the Anglican Church in North America’s College of Bishops will give or withhold consent to my election. This is an important step on the journey to becoming a Bishop for the whole Church, not just C4SO. If the College of Bishops consents to my election (please be holding this in prayer), I will officially begin my job this fall.

My first priority over these next few months will be to listen: to hear your stories, to learn about the beautiful work already happening across our diocese, and to discover where God is inviting us to go next. Together, we will seek God’s leading as we dream about what it means to be a community that is both deeply rooted and courageously sent.

I am especially eager to build deep relationships—with our clergy, lay leaders and parishioners, and the many friends and family members who support and sustain the life of our churches. I want you to know that my door will always be open, and I am committed to fostering a spirit of openness, encouragement and partnership.

As you know, we are living in a time when the world desperately needs the hope and healing of the Gospel. I believe God continues to call C4SO to be a redemptive presence in our communities all across the United States. I firmly believe in C4SO’s values of kingdom, spirit, formation, mission and sacrament, and I am asking the Holy Spirit to empower us as we seek to be a diocese of Jesus-followers who join God in the renewal of all things.

As I write these words, I am reminded of Paul’s words to the Philippians: “I thank my God every time I remember you. In all my prayers for all of you, I always pray with joy because of your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now” (Philippians 1:3–5). That is truly how I feel today—thankful, joyful and full of anticipation for what God has in store for us.

I look forward to meeting many of you personally—whether in your churches, at regional gatherings, or through casual conversations. In the meantime, please know that I am already holding you in prayer, asking God to bless and strengthen each of you as we move into this new season together.

With gratitude, excitement and hope, Bishop-Elect Jeff Bailey
