Trinity Anglican Seminary is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Alex Fogleman as Associate Dean for Special Programs and Assistant Professor of Theology. In this role, Dr. Fogleman will oversee the Robert E. Webber Center and the Doctor of Ministry (DMin) program.
The Very Rev. Bryan C. Hollon, PhD, Trinity’s Dean & President, shared, “In Alex, we have found a leader whose academic expertise, practical experience, and deep commitment to the church align perfectly with Trinity’s mission and values. I have been particularly impressed by Alex’s ability to bridge the ancient and the contemporary in his scholarly work. His recent Cambridge University Press book on early Christian initiation, alongside his leadership of the Catechesis Institute, demonstrates exactly the kind of ancient-future vision that Bob Webber championed.”
Dr. Fogleman brings exceptional academic credentials and practical experience to this position. He currently serves as Assistant Research Professor at Baylor University’s Institute for Studies of Religion and Director of the Catechesis Task Force for the Anglican Church of North America. His recent book, Knowledge, Faith, and Early Christian Initiation was published by Cambridge University Press. His extensive publication record includes articles in the Harvard Theological Review, Church History, and Journal of Early Christian Studies.
In a recent statement, Dr Fogleman shared he was pleased to accept the role, given that “Trinity has an exceptionally strong faculty, staff, and student body and is uniquely positioned to serve clergy and lay leaders in the Anglican Church in North America and beyond by offering students from all around the world a robust theological and spiritual formation.”
Dr. Fogleman’s appointment comes at a strategic time for Trinity Anglican Seminary. As Associate Dean for Special Programs, he will guide the mission of the Webber Center, develop programs for catechesis and formation, and oversee the DMin program’s curriculum and student development.
“The Robert Webber Center is a flagship institution for helping the contemporary church remember and recover the wisdom of the Christian past”, writes Dr Fogleman. “Webber’s clarion call to ‘re-narrate the world’ by retrieving the tradition has never been more vital as the cracks in modern Christianity that Webber discerned have become full-blown chasms.”
“Dr. Fogleman is a uniquely gifted scholar, administrator, and teacher,” says Dr. Hans Boersma, Saint Benedict Servants of Christ Chair at Nashotah House. “His academic and administrative gifts, as well as his personality, are simply exceptional.” Dr. Daniel H. Williams, who supervised Fogleman’s PhD dissertation, describes him as “an admirable unifier of different people for a common cause.”
“I am also excited to begin working with Trinity’s Doctor of Ministry students”, added Dr. Fogleman, “by building on the program’s strong focus in practical theology while widening its range of programs to include new initiatives in catechesis and discipleship, cultural engagement, formation in the Anglican tradition, worship and the arts, and more.”
Dr. Fogleman holds a PhD in Historical Theology and Patristics from Baylor University and an MDiv from Regent College.
