The Anglican Church of Uganda and clergy from Oryun Community Church in South Korea have launched a training centre for missionaries in Uganda.
The Daniel Missional Leadership Training Centre at Lweza in Wakiso District, Central Uganda, was commissioned last week at a colourful event graced by top Anglican Church leaders in Uganda and Oryun Community Church.
Speaking at the event on 21st March, the Archbishop of the Anglican Church of Uganda, Dr Stephen Kaziimba Mugalu, said the centre will train young leaders to usher God’s Kingdom into their homes, churches, universities, workplaces and the rest of the world.
“The commissioning of the centre is a clear testimony that the Anglican Church of Uganda shall be celebrated for sending missionaries to the world,” Kaziimba said, adding, “We envision many young people being equipped for the works of the ministry and sent to the world to light it.”
For decades, churches in Uganda have only received missionaries from other countries such as France, Italy, and the UK.
Kaziimba noted that the centre embodies the church’s strategy to raise local missional leaders and that was built with financial support from Oryun Community Church. He did disclose the total cost of the facility.
Eun Ho Kim, senior pastor at Oryun Community Church, commended the Anglican Church of Uganda for establishing the centre and pledged further support to ensure the vision to train missionaries is realised.
The provincial secretary of the Anglican Church of Uganda, Rev Canon William Ongeng, said the centre will foster discipline in the church and support its vision.
“Our Vision 2025 is very clear that if we are to become a fast growing sustainable Christ-centred church, we must concentrate on disciple making,” Ongeng said. “Given that the youth and children constitute the biggest percentage of the population in Uganda, it was imperative to prioritise their discipleship.”
Rev Yohan Bae, country project director of the Daniel Missional Leadership Training Centre, said the centre will train and shape youth pastors, pre-university and university students leaders and send them to the world as missionaries.
“We are called to raise missionaries among children and youth,” Bae said. “We want to see them take the gospel to their homes, schools and playmates in their villages.”

At the time of commissioning the centre, over 40 youth leaders from the different dioceses in Uganda were already undergoing training at the facility.
Among the dignitaries who graced the event were Bishop Hannington Mutebi of Kampala Diocese, Rev Canon Rebecca Nyegenye, provost of All Saints Cathedral in Kampala, and Grace Murengezi, the Provincial Mother’s Union president
