Pakistan Supreme Court orders her death sentence be set aside

A three judge panel of the Pakistan Supreme Court has set aside Asia Bibi’s 2010 death sentence for blasphemy and ordered her immediate release from prison. On 31 Oct 2018 Chief Justice Saqib Nisar, Justice Asif Saeed Khosa and Justice Mazhar Alam Khan ordered the mother of five who had been sentenced to death in 2010 for having made unkind remarks about the prophet of Islam, Muhammad, be released immediately. On 8 Oct 2018 the court heard an appeal from the Catholic woman’s lawyers and reserved its judgment on the case, banning the Pakistani media from reporting on the issue until its final ruling was pubished.
