Nearly six years after its founding, the Anglican Network in Europe has kept up a striking pace of growth: better than one new congregation added every month, according to official data from each diocese. Now it counts 121 local congregations, up from the 30 it started with when it launched in the 8 December 2020, by GAFCON Primates’ Council. 

Averaged out, the growth from 30 to 121 congregations works out to roughly 91 new communities over about 69 months — or slightly more than one congregation added per month since its founding, a move that has held steady enough to become something of a talking point.

Anglican Network in Europe was formed to serve Anglicans across continental Europe who felt increasingly at odds with the more liberal direction taken by parts of the wider Anglican Communion, including the Church of England; since then, it has answered God’s call to disciple Europe and bring the gospel to them. It is part of the Global Anglican Communion, or GAFCON.

Not every new congregation represents a church built from scratch. The total blends genuine church plants with existing congregations that later chose to affiliate with the Anglican Network in Europe.
