PORT HARCOURT, RIVERS STATE – July 16, 2026 – The Primate of the Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion), The Most Rev. Henry Chukwudum Ndukuba, has announced the election of four new bishops following the conclusion of the Episcopal Synod on the last day of deliberations at the Advance Episcopal Consultation held at Our Saviour’s Chapel, University of Port Harcourt, Rivers State, on Thursday, 16th July, 2026.
The Primate disclosed that the following clergy were elected as bishops:
* Ven. Dr. Godwin Tersoo Simon Yakela – Bishop-Elect, Diocese of Makurdi
* Ven. Dr. Kingsley Ogbonda – Bishop-Elect, Diocese of Uyo
* Ven. Dr. Julius Oyediran – Bishop-Elect, Diocese of Ekiti Oke
* Ven. Dr. Olayemi Fatusi – Bishop-Elect, Awori Diocese
The Primate stated that the elections were concluded after prayerful deliberations by the bishops during the Episcopal Synod. He further announced that the bishops-elect will be consecrated during the General Synod of the Church of Nigeria, scheduled to hold in The Diocese of Remo in September.
The election of the four bishops-elect marks another significant milestone in the life and mission of the Church as they prepare to assume episcopal leadership in their respective dioceses. They will be entrusted with the spiritual oversight of God’s people, the advancement of evangelism, and the strengthening of the Anglican Communion in their various jurisdictions.
The Primate called on members of the Church to continually uphold these fathers in God in their prayers, asking the Almighty God to grant them wisdom, strength, good health, humility, and the grace to faithfully discharge the responsibilities of the episcopal office to the glory of His Holy Name.
