| Bishop Rob Price has named Bishop Michael Smith as the new Dean of Stanton Institute. Bishop Smith will work to design curricula, recruit teachers and improve the quality of the offerings as well as teach a class of his choice each semester. Bishop Smith will also support the diocesan sodalities such as the Brotherhood of St. Andrew, the Daughters of the King, the Mother’s Union, etc. “These groups will be encouraged to have their plenary and annual meetings when Bishop Smith is present in Dallas to be with them,” Bishop Price said. “Bishop Smith will be coming to Dallas from his home in Fargo, North Dakota, and will be making a visitation on the Sundays when he is in town. I’m thrilled to have this friend of mine and of our Diocese re-join our team.” Bishop Smith said he loves the people in the Diocese of Dallas and looks forward to seeing old friends. Christian education and formation has long been in his heart. He was a popular teacher at the Stanton Institute and prior to that worked in Christian education at the IONA Collaborative through the missioner diocese of Navajoland and he founded the North Dakota School of Ministry. “Almost all of my ordained ministry has involved theological education at the local level,” he said. “Working with deacons and schools of ministry like Stanton Institute really help the Church fulfill its mission by training those on the ground doing the work.” Bishop Smith begins in August. |
