The Principal of Moore College, Dr Mark Thompson, has announced he will retire at the end of 2027.
 
The announcement was made at Moore College on Friday, June 5, as Dr Thompson told staff and students. 
 
“After discussions with the Archbishop and the Governing Board, we have decided that 2027 will be the last year that I serve as the 13th Principal of Moore College,” Dr Thompson said.  “No doubt there will be much more that will be said and written over the next eighteen months. But I wanted to let you know at this point, so that you won’t be surprised when advertisements for the position begin to appear in the second half of this year, and so that you might pray as the process of choosing the 14th Principal unfolds.”
 
In a statement, Archbishop Kanishka Raffel said “Mark Thompson has led Moore College with wholehearted and prayerful dedication to its mission to equip men and women to take the gospel to Australia and the world. Today I want to record the deep thankfulness of the Governing Board for Mark’s outstanding leadership over the last 14 years –  including three Archbishops, Covid-19 and innumerable challenges in the theological education sector.
 
“As Principal, Mark has been consistently and passionately concerned not only for the health and growth of the students and faculty, but also for the welfare of the churches and the progress of the mission of Jesus,” the Archbishop said. “Please pray for Mark and Kathryn and their family in this time of transition, and for the Governing Board as we seek the Lord’s help in identifying the next Principal.”
 
Dr Thompson told students and staff that he was thankful to God for being entrusted with what he described as “the extraordinary privilege of leading the College”. He has been Principal for more than 14 years and on the faculty for 37 years.
 
In concluding his statement, Dr Thompson said “I am praying that, under God’s good hand, the College’s best years lie ahead.”
