UK Pro-Life Petition Calls for Criminalisation of Abortion Amid Legislative Debate

A new pro-life petition has been launched on the UK Parliament website calling for the abolition and criminalization of abortion, as debate continues over proposed changes in the government’s Crime and Policing Bill.

The petition, submitted on 19 March—the Feast of St Joseph—and opened for signatures on 20 April 2026, urges lawmakers to “protect the sacred gift of life” by ending legal protections for abortion and promoting adoption as an alternative. Its sponsor, Dianne Thomas, argues the proposed legislation would represent a significant shift by removing criminal liability for women acting in relation to their own pregnancies.

As of this week, the petition has drawn several dozen signatures, primarily from within the United Kingdom, with supporters expressing hope that broader national engagement will follow, including in Wales and Northern Ireland.

The initiative reflects ongoing concern among pro-life advocates that recent legislative proposals could weaken longstanding legal protections for unborn children. Organisers are encouraging supporters to sign and share the petition, framing their efforts as part of a wider moral and spiritual commitment to uphold the dignity of human life from conception to natural death.
