The Anglican Church in North America will host its semiannual College of Bishops meeting beginning next week, January 12–16, 2026, in Melbourne, Florida. The gathering will bring together more than 50 bishops from across North America for a week of prayer, discernment, and decision‑making on key priorities, including canonical reform, revised processes for the election of bishops, consent to a new bishop, and prioritizing the mission and health of the Province.
“A major priority of this meeting will be to advance comprehensive reforms to the Church’s Title IV disciplinary canons,” Bishop Dobbs said. “It is vital that we do all we can to address known challenges within our existing disciplinary processes to strengthen our structures of accountability, transparency, and pastoral care for all involved.”
The bishops will also devote time to reviewing and improving processes for identifying, vetting, approving, and electing bishops so that future episcopal leadership reflects the highest standards of spiritual maturity, integrity, and pastoral wisdom.
At the heart of the agenda is a renewed commitment to the Church’s mission to reach others with the transforming love of Jesus Christ. The College will consider ways to equip dioceses to support their congregations in growing mature disciples and to strengthen ministries among the poor, the persecuted, and the vulnerable. During the meeting, the College of Bishops will be asked to give consent to one new bishop, The Rev. Canon Billy Waters, Rector of Wellspring Church in Englewood, Colorado, who has been elected to serve as Suffragan Bishop of the Anglican Diocese of the Rocky Mountains.
The meeting will be led by Dean of the Province, Bishop Julian M. Dobbs, who is leading the Province while Archbishop Stephen D. Wood is inhibited pending a disciplinary trial that is soon to be scheduled. The College will ground its work together in scripture and prayer with daily Bible teaching provided by The Rev. Dr. John W. Yates III, Rector of Holy Trinity Anglican Church, Raleigh, North Carolina. The Bishops’ spouses will also participate in the gathering, joining in times of learning, fellowship, and shared service, particularly among the families of Christ Church Academy in Vero Beach, Florida.
