Church of Nigeria Holds Episcopal Synod, Fills Vacant Sees, Re-elect Two Archbishops

The Church of Nigeria, Anglican Communion, held its Episcopal Synod on Friday, 11th July 2025 at Emmanuel Anglican Church, Iji-Nike, Enugu State in Nike Diocese.

At this exclusive synod was the election of some clergymen as Bishops-elect and Archbishops of the internal provinces which commenced after an eucharistic Service.

At the end of this Episcopal Synod, the Primate of the Church of Nigeria, Anglican Communion, The Most Rev. Dr. Henry Ndukuba announced the elections of two clergymen to fill the current vacant Sees of Osun North-East and Ilesa South-West.

The following Servants of God were duly Elected at this Synod:

1. The Ven Dr. Samuel Adekunle Ola Osungbeju as the bishop-elect of Osun North-East Diocese
2.⁠ ⁠The Very Rev’d Dr. Adebola Ojofeitimi as the bishop-elect of Ilesa South West Diocese

Also, two current Archbishops were re-elected for a second term of five years as follows:
1.⁠ ⁠Bendel Province – The Most Rev’d Dr. Cyril Odutemu
2.⁠ ⁠Jos Province – The Most Rev’d Marcus Ibrahim

The Primate urged all faithful to pray and support these newly elected servants of God and their families as they go into their new places of assignment at a time like this, after all the due processes, training and consecration are concluded.

Archbishop Ndukuba called on the newly elected fathers in God to pray and seek God’s face for direction, and for the power of God in their new roles.

The Primate added that the Consecration of the Bishops-elect and the presentation of the Archbishops-elect will hold on Tuesday 16th of September, 2025 at the Standing Committee Meeting of the Church to be hosted by Ekiti Diocese in Ekiti State.
