Receive warm greetings from the Provincial Secretariat in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ! Congratulations upon the just concluded Easter celebrations of the risen Lord Jesus Christ.

As we remember the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, I bring to your attention the current influx of refugees in our country because of the continued unrest in Democratic Republic of Congo.

Since the year 2025 started, Uganda has received over 60,000 refugees from DRC through Nyakabande Matanda, transit centres. The situation in the transit and reception centres is worrying and there is a global strain in the resources available to provide lifesaving basic needs, Water Sanitation & Hygiene, protection, health, shelter, and nutrition assistance.

As a Church that cares for the body of Christ, we need to extend a message of love and hope to these refugees by giving spiritual and physical support.

To this effect, Church of Uganda has launched an appeal to raise support from all our members, friends and well-wishers. We would like to reach out to refugees in Nakivale Refugee Settlement in Ankole Diocese because it’s the settlement receiving the highest number of refugees and if resources allow, we shall extend support to the transit centres i.e. Matanda in Diocese of Kinkiizi and Nyakabande in Muhabura Diocese.

Therefore, I call upon you to you to extend a hand of support and also mobilize your partners, Churches, Christians and friends to support this cause by giving in form of food and non-food items.

The urgent needs are; food, shelter, hygiene kits for mothers and girls, shelters and all household items both at the transit centres and in the settlement.

This support can be received in kind or cash through the @HCT_Direcorate by contacting our Emergency Program Officer- Ms. Josephine Ninsiima on Telephone No. +256-782626140, or by collecting physical items at designated Diocesan collection centres.
