CEEC update following publication of the Makin Report

302

CEEC created a work stream in 2021 tasked with looking at church cultures, power and abuse. It resulted in the production of a series of resources ‘In Lament‘. When launched in 2021, the CEEC committed itself to reviewing our Church Culture Review Questions when the Makin Report was published. Members of this group reconvened at the end of November with a view to considering if/what further action is needed following the publication of the Makin Report. Time was given to lament all that the report contains, and to pray for victims.

Further reflection on the Makin Report – and the Scolding Review on Mike Pilavachi – is clearly needed. The CEEC will be consulting internally – and externally – on how best this is done, and what role we can usefully play.

In the meantime, we continue to encourage CEEC churches, member organisations, and others, to make use of our In Lament resources. The film that introduces them still speaks into our context today. The liturgical resources give us words to lament and repent of all that has happened. The Church Cultures Review Questions provide a good starting point to help bring about culture-change where it may be needed.
