This weekend saw the commissioning of seven new Church Army Evangelists whose mission is to ignite faith and restore life, address social injustices, bring hope, and share the good news of Jesus in relevant and transformative ways.
The commissioning event, which took place on Saturday 20 July at Sheffield Cathedral, celebrates the dedication and training of these seven individuals, who will join over 200 Evangelists currently working across the UK and Ireland.
The three-year, part-time training programme, validated by Durham University under the Church of England’s Common Awards scheme, ensures that each Evangelist is thoroughly prepared to meet the challenges of their unique ministry contexts. Many will deal with different social injustices, such as poverty, addiction or homelessness, while others will aim to share the Gospel in new, relatable and innovative ways.
As Church Army continues to expand its reach, the commissioning of these new Evangelists highlights the ongoing need for dedicated individuals who can bring support and encouragement to communities across the UK. The Admitting and Commissioning Service is not just a celebration of individual achievements, but a testament to the enduring power of faith in action.
Elli Wort, Head of Initial Training at Church Army, shares, “The seven people that have been admitted and commissioned this year are all amazing Evangelists, and this day marks the culmination of their vocational discernment and formational learning.
“During their training with Church Army, they deepen in their faith as a disciple of Christ, which they can now pass on to their communities, sharing the Gospel and helping those whose lives are in turmoil see how faith can bring them comfort in their times of need.”
