The North Yorkshire Council has given planning permission to the Church Commissioners for England to build 145 homes in Northallerton, North Yorkshire, the first phase of a 650-home development. Thirty percent of the homes built during phase one will be for lower income households.
Matthew Naylor, principal strategic land manager at the Church Commissioners for England, said: “This planning consent will be an important first phase in the delivery of a new 650-home community that will include vital social infrastructure such as a new primary school and community centre, in addition to much-needed new housing.”
“Delivering more homes of all types and tenures is critical to addressing England’s housing crisis and we are particularly pleased to be offering a range of affordable housing tenures as part of this first phase, which is in line with local planning policy and the Church
Commissioners’ aspirations to create sustainable, safe, stable, sociable and satisfying places to live.”
In addition to the 650 homes, the development plans include a primary school and community center. The new development is 1.5 km from the town centre and 2 km from the Northallerton train station.
The development supports the Church of England’s vision set out in the Archbishops’ Council’s ‘Coming Home’ report to create more affordable homes and stronger communities across Britain,
