The Rev. Charlie Holt has been called as rector of St Mark’s Episcopal Church in Jacksonville. On 10 August 2023 Fr. Holt announced on Facebook he had accepted the post at St Mark’s. On 21 July 2023 Presiding Bishop Michael Curry announced Fr. Holt had not received the necessary consents from the bishops and standing committees of the Episcopal Church to affirm his election as Bishop of Florida.
Posting on Facebook on 11 August 2023 Fr. Holt wrote: “The journey to get here has been long, and not without its challenges, but we are thrilled and delighted to report that we have reached a beautiful destination and a bright new beginning! I’ve been called to be 8th rector of St. Marks Episcopal Church in Jacksonville, Florida. Brooke and I are absolutely thrilled with the opportunity to remain home in Florida and we get to serve the Lord with such an amazing group of Christian people who are eager to go deeper in faith and witness to God. My first Sunday will be this Sunday, August 13. Preaching at all the services a sermon entitled, Starting with the Heart of the Matter.
