The Prime Minister of Rwanda Edouard Ngirente welcomed delegates to Kigali this week for the GAFCON IV conference, telling them Africa looked to the Anglican renewal movement as spiritual leaders for the continent.
Mr. Ngirente addressed the 1300 delegates on Monday evening 17 April 2023 at the start of the five day gathering at the Kigali Convention Center.
The GAFCON conference theme, “To whom shall we go?” spoke to the challenges facing the post-covid, post-colonial world. “Many in our communities are looking to you, our spiritual leaders, for guidance on how to build satisfying lives, in which our families remain strong, our children and youth are able to grow into productive and fulfilled adults, in nations that are dignified, inclusive, and prosperous,” he sai
The Prime Minister thanked the Anglican Church of Rwanda and other Rwandan church leaders attending the opening service for their efforts to rebuild the moral and social fabric of Rwanda following the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsis.
He further commended “the Anglican Church of Rwanda for the continued collaboration with the government in the implementation of programs in health, education and income generation projects, which are improving the lives of our citizens.”
GAFCON IV has focused on Christian humanitarian work, church renewal and themoral reawakening of the church around the world. It concludes its work on Friday, 21 April 2023.
