“The people living in darkness have seen a great light; on those living in the land of the shadow of death a light has dawned.” (Matthew 4:16 NIV)
Because of the Covid-19 pandemic which has blighted our world in 2020, this Christmas will be hugely different to any we have known before.
I pray especially for all those involved in the medical profession; for their families and for all those isolated or undergoing medical treatment at this most holy time of year. I pray also that the joy of Christmas will reach those who are suffering financially or mentally.
As God’s children, we need to believe that the light of Christ will illuminate the darkness of this world during the difficult times we face, just as the sun is always shining no matter how thick the clouds are.
In this coming New Year, I pray that the love and grace of God, as shown in the birth of our Saviour Jesus Christ, will be upon us all.

2020年 首座主教クリスマスメッセージ
暗闇に住む民は大きな光を見、死の陰に住む者に光が射し込んだ。」(マタイ４：１６)
今年のクリスマスは、新型コロナウイルスのパンデミックにより今までとは違ったクリスマスを迎えられることでしょう。クリスマスのときにも医療に従事される皆さんとご家族、また加療中の皆さんのことを覚えてお祈りいたします。また精神的にも経済的にも困難のうちにある方々にクリスマスの喜びが届きますようにお祈りいたします。どんなに厚い雲に覆われていても太陽が輝いているように、この困難の時にもキリストの光がこの世界の闇を照らしてくださることを信じます。
新しい年も、救い主イエス・キリストのご降誕によって示された神の愛と恵みが、すべての人の上にありますようお祈りいたします。
