Bishop for Kuching elected

Danald Jute to be consecrated Bishop of Kuching 

The Revd Danald Jute has been appointed as the 14th Bishop of the diocese of Kuching, the capital of the Malaysian state of Sarawak on the island of Borneo. Revd Danald’s consecration and installation will take place next month at St Thomas’ Cathedral in Kuching.

Revd Danald, age 51, is presently the Vicar of the Good Shepherd Church in Lutong, in Sarawak.  He is also a member of a number of ministries within the Diocese and the Province.

Ordained as a Priest in 1993, Revd Danald received his Diploma in Missiology from the Australian College of Theology and his Bachelor of Divinity from the University of Edinburgh, Scotland.

From 2003 to 2009 he served in the diocese of Glasgow in Scotland. He is passionate about Church Renewal, Discipleship Training, Youth Ministry and the Empowerment of Lay Leadership.

Revd Danald is married to Julita Jack Sungul and they have 4 children – Izra, lona, Ian and Ingrid.

Announcing the appointment, the Archbishop of South East Asia, Most Revd Ng Moon Hing said: “Let us continue to pray for the Revd Danald Jute, his family and the Diocese of Kuching.”

Revd Danald said: “I believe that a priest has been called and entrusted by the Lord to feed, nurture and lead His people, at the same time reaching out to the lost world with the life changing Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ. My pattern and model of leadership is none other than the Good Shepherd, the Son of Man, Jesus Christ, who came to serve and not to be served” he said.
