Kidnappers free archdeacon’s wife

The wife of the General Secretary of the Church of Nigeria, Mrs. Florence Fagbemi, has been freed by kidnappers after a ransom was paid for release

The wife of the General Secretary of the Church of Nigeria, Mrs. Florence Fagbemi, has been freed by kidnappers after a ransom was paid for release. During the night of Monday, 12 Dec 2016, an armed gang invaded the home of the Ven. Ayodeji Fagbemi {pictured} in the village of Oba-Ile near Akure in Southern Nigeria’s Ondo State. The gang abducted his wife, bundling her into the couple’s Toyota jeep.

Archdeacon Fagbemi told local reporters the gang demanded N20 million ($64,000) for her safe release. On 15 Dec 2016 a family spokesman reported Mrs. Fagbemi had been released after a ransom was paid, however, the amount was not disclosed.

Ondo State police spokesman Femi Joseph confirmed Mrs. Fagbemi had been freed, but declined to speak to the details of her release.

The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Mr. Femi Joseph confirmed the development but said he was yet to get the details of the matter as at the press time. “We learnt that she has been released but we are still after the hoodlums, releasing the victim has not stopped us from getting the abductors. But we are yet ready to arrest anybody for now,” he told the the Punch newspaper.
