The Rev. Canon Michael Lubowa Elected
The Rev. Canon Michael Lubowa has been elected the next Bishop of Central Buganda Diocese. He will be consecrated and enthroned as Bishop on 29th January 2017 at St. John’s Cathedral, Kasaka, Gomba-Mpigi.
Canon Lubowa is the third born of eleven children of retired Bishop George and Edith Sinabulya, the first Bishop of Central Buganda Diocese. He grew up in a committed Christian home, and attended church every Sunday and participated in daily family devotions. Yet, it wasn’t until he was a student at Uganda Christian University in August 1999 that he received Jesus Christ as his personal Lord and Saviour and was born again.
Canon Lubowa is currently serving as Archdeacon of Busimbi Archdeaconry in Mityana Diocese. During his tenure as Archdeacon, he has seen the original Archdeaconry grow to such an extent that a new Archdeaconry was created. Prior to serving as Archdeacon, he was the Diocesan Stewardship and Resource Mobilizer as well as a parish priest in Mityana Diocese. He also served as Bishop’s Chaplain in Central Buganda Diocese. Before ordination, Canon Lubowa worked in the coffee industry at Wamala Growers Cooperative Union.
Canon Lubowa was ordained a deacon in 2001 in West Buganda Diocese, on behalf of Central Buganda Diocese, and a priest in 2002 in Central Buganda Diocese.
Canon Lubowa earned a Bachelor of Arts in Applied Theology from Redcliffe College, University of Gloucestershire, in 2007. His Diploma of Theology was awarded in 2001 from Uganda Christian University, Mukono.
The election was made by the House of Bishops of the Church of Uganda sitting at Uganda Christian University in Mukono on 24th August 2016.
Canon Lubowa is married to Janepher Nankya Lubowa and they have four children. He will succeed the Rt. Rev. Jackson Matovu as Bishop of Central Buganda Diocese.
