The Rev Dr Peter Sanlon is Vicar of St Mark’s Church, Tunbridge Wells

Pete Sanlon was born in N. Ireland. His childhood included time living in America, Malaysia and Belfast.

He read Theology at Oxford University and subsequently benefited from the Ministry Training Scheme at St Helen’s Bishopsgate. After a short season working as a parliamentary assistant to an MP and speechwriter to a peer in the House of Lords, Pete did ordination training at Ridley Hall, Cambridge.

He was there for 5 years and during that time completed an MPhil on Christian Doctrine and a PhD on Augustine’s Preaching. This was supervised by David Ford and published as Augustine’s Theology of Preaching (Fortress Press). Another doctine book that grew out of that research was published as ‘Simply God’ (IVP). It is a presentation of the classical doctrine of God in a way that is indebted to Augustine and Aquinas.

For three years after ordination Pete taught Doctrine and Church History at Oak Hill College, London. Alongside that he served a curacy in a multi racial inner city parish, known for its social and cultural challenges.

Since 2013 Pete has been vicar of St. Mark’s, Tunbridge Wells. He has found that there are a numbers of supportive and flourishing parishes in the region and he seeks to partner with them in practical ways that advance the orthodox Anglican Faith.

Pete is married and has two young children – and two cats. He loves the chaos of normal parish life
