The Ven. Granville Gibson stands accused of eight charges of indecent assault against two men

The trial of the former Archdeacon of Auckland begins this week for sexual abuse. The Ven. George Granville Gibson (80) stands accused of eight charges of indecent assault against two men dating back to the 1970’s and 1980s.  He was arrested by police in April 2014 during Operation Seabrook, a criminal investigation by the Durham Constabulary into allegations of sexual and physical abuse perpetrated by staff against detainees at Medomsley Detention Centre near Consett, County Durham.  One charge against Gibson relates to an alleged indecent assault during a visit to an inmate at Medomsley Detention Centre. The trial before the Durham Crown Court began on 25 July 2016 and is expected to last two weeks.
