Over 1000 Anglicans joined the Most Rev. Ian Ernest, Archbishop of the Indian Ocean and the Rt. Rev. Todd McGregor, Bishop of Toliara, for the consecration of St. Patrick’s Cathedral last Sunday in Madagascar. In 1991 Dr. McGregor and his wife the Rev. Dr. Patsy McGregor, American missionaries, began work in the capital of Antananarivo in 1991. Dr. McGregor was consecrated the first bishop of Toliara at St. Laurent’s Anglican Church in Antananarivo, on 10 Dec 2006 and began mission work in the remote southern Toliara district of Madagascar. From a single church with 11 preaching stations, the diocese along the island’s southwest coast has grown to 63 congregations in ten years and on 13 March 2016 the diocese’s first purpose built cathedral, Katedraly Santa Patrika, was consecrated.
