The Diocese of Egypt and North Africa with the Horn of Africa celebrated today with the Installation of a new priest. Archbishop Mouneer Anis officiated the installment service on February 19th at All Saints’ Cathedral with words speaking to the true catholicity of the Church, the body of Christ.

Reverend Kerry Buttram was installed to the position of Priest-in-Charge of the English Speaking Congregation at All Saints’ Cathedral. Rev. Kerry hails from South Carolina where he and his wife Cynthia have served for many years.

For eight years before coming to Cairo, Rev. Kerry served as the Pastor for Outreach and Care for Fellowship Greenville, South Carolina. This involved equipping cross cultural teams for short term ministry, discerning and appointing missionaries for long-term vocational ministry, teaching on God’s heart for the world, mobilising youth workers for mission, preparing lay people in skilled pastoral care through Stephen Ministry, organising and leading local community outreach to extend help to marginalised communities, and working to build church-to-church and community partnerships.

Rev. Kerry and Cynthia have also lived for over twenty years overseas. Rev. Kerry served with Biblical Ministries Worldwide in Cyprus and Ireland as a pastor, teacher, evangelist, counselor and church planter and then as company manager and theological course instructor for international church leaders for FEBA and BEE World in the Middle East respectively.

The installment concluded with a giving articles symbolic to the role of Rev. Kerry’s new station such as a Bible, baptismal water, a stole, prayer book, and oil. After the service there all gathered outside to enjoy a potluck meal with a variety of wonderful dishes prepared and shared by a number of the congregation. The diocese is very excited to welcome Rev. Kerry and Cynthia into their roles as part of Christ’s body here in Egypt.
