The Primate of the Anglican Church of Melanesia (ACOM) presided at his final service as archbishop this week at a ceremony broadcast by state television across the Solomon Islands. On 6 Sept 2015 the Most Rev. David Vunagi was joined by the nine bishops of the ACOM and representatives from other churches and mission societies at St Barnabas Cathedral on Guadalcanal. The service thanked the archbishop for his 38 years of service to the church including seven years as primate and 16 years as Bishop of Temotu. The senior bishop of the province, the Rt. Rev, Nathan Tome of Guadalcanal will serve as acting primate until a successor is chosen by a special meeting of the church’s synod on 12 Feb 2016. The enthronement for the next archbishop has been tentatively scheduled for 17 April 2016.
