The Rev. Canon Dr. Steve Breedlove was officially installed as Presider pro tem of PEARUSA at the opening Eucharist of the Celebration Assembly in Raleigh Monday night. Canon Breedlove, who recently stepped down as rector of All Saints Church in Chapel Hill in anticipation of assuming his new responsibilities, will preside over an interim mission council until an October assembly which will finalize the offices and structures of the organization.
Archbishop Onesphore Rwaje presented Canon Breedlove to the clergy and lay members of the Raleigh assembly, along with the members of the mission council pro tem. At the archbishop’s request, Bishop Thad Barnum will serve as episcopal advisor.
In a moving display of unity, Bishop John Guernsey of the Anglican Church in North America brought greetings from Archbishop Robert Duncan and his fellow bishops. Archbishop Duncan was unable to attend the assembly, as he is preparing for ordinations in the Diocese of Pittsburgh.
