THE ELECTION OF THE SEVENTH PRIMATE OF THE ANGLICAN CHURCH OF TANZANIA.

The Special synod of the Anglican church of Tanzania which has met in accordance to the constitution of the Anglican Church of Tanzania, today on 15th February 2018 has elected the Rt Rev Maimbo Mndolwa the seventh Archbishop of the Anglican Church of Tanzania succeeding the incumbent Primate, Most Rev Dr Jacob Erasto Chimeledya who is looking forward in finishing his term in office in May this year.

Bishop Mndolwais the bishop of the Anglican diocese of Tanga. He was consecrated in the service of God in the holy order of a bishop on the Fourth day of the Nineth month of the year of our Lord of Two Thousand and Twelve.

The Archbishop-elect told the synod, members of the Anglican Church of Tanzania, Anglicans worldwide and the general public that he has accepted the result of this election in humbleness and humility. He promised to work wholeheartedly for the benefit of the community and the Church as a whole. On his final blessings after the election, the Archbishop- elect insisted on peace, unity and listening to the voice of God in our lives.

The Rt Rev Mndolwa, as the Archbishop- elect will, be installed as the Archbishop and Primate of the Anglican Church of Tanzania on 20th May 2018, the Day of Pentecoste.

Maimbo William Mndolwa, the second bishop of Tanga, was educated at St. Mark’s Theological College, Dar es Salaam and the College of the Transfiguration, Grahamstown, South Africa and the Virginia Theological Seminary in Alexandria, VA. He earned a Master of Theology through the Akrofi-Christaller Memorial Center for Mission Research and Applied Theology as well as a Ph.D in theology from the University of KwaZulu Natal. In 2014 he was awarded the degree of Doctor of Divinity h.c. by VTS. The new archbishop served as an army officer before entering the ministry and comes from the Anglo-Catholic wing of the Tanzanian church.
