Six priests of the Diocese of Lesotho have filed a presentment with the Archbishop of Cape Town against their bishop, the Rt. Rev. Adam Taaso, charging him with conduct unbecoming a member of the clergy. On 3 Dec 2015 the six priests filed their charged with Archbishop Thabo Makgoba noting that attempts to resolve the dispute through the diocesan synod and internal procedures had failed. The bishop is accused of stealing diocesan funds, using diocesan funds to pay for the education of his children, submitting false expense claims, as well as taking a partisan role in the political life of the small southern African nation. Bishop Taaso has denied the charges, telling the Sunday Express they were “malicious lies.” The bishop has twenty days to file a formal response to the allegations, which will then be taken up by the church’s disciplinary board.
