Kenyan archbishop election set for Friday

A new Primate and Archbishop for the Anglican Church of Kenya is to be elected this week at a special meeting of synod held on 20 May 2016 at All Saints Cathedral in Nairobi (pictured). Six candidates representing a cross section of perspectives are on the ballot to succeed the Most Rev. Eliud Wabukala who retires in June. The meeting will begin at 8:30 am with a service in the cathedral and the delegates from 38 dioceses will meet in the cathedral’s auditorium to select a new archbishop. Standing for election are: the Rt. Rev. Moses Masamba Bishop of Mbeere, the Rt. Rev. James Ochiel Bishop of South Nyanza, the Rt. Rev. Julius Wanyoike  Bishop of Thika, the Rt. Rev. Jackson Ole Sapit Bishop of Kericho, the Rt. Rev. Lawrence Dena Bishop of Malindi, and the Rt. Rev. Joel Waweru Bishop of Nairobi.
